Why We Need to Touch Stuff. Fidgeting and Tactile Meditation.

Does anyone here bite their fingernails? Ok, I’ll admit, I do. I bite my nails. It’s not something I’m proud of. But I’d bet my last meditation cushion that most of you do this too sometimes. I also pick at my fingers when I’m concentrating on something or lost in thought. And if you know me well enough, you also know it got me thinking. Why do we do this? I pondered this a bit (probably while picking my nails) and then a picture appeared in my mind of many of my trauma patients, who sit across from me in our therapy sessions.
